Bathurst champ’s car on fire at V8s

Bathurst champion Paul Morris’s Ford has dramatically caught fire during practice for a V8 Supercars development race at Queensland Raceway.

Morris was forced to pull his smoking Falcon into the pits at the Ipswich circuit during the practice run on Friday, with marshalls spending several minutes trying to put out the flames.

The 47-year-old, who claimed the Bathurst 1000 crown last year as co-driver to Chaz Mostert, made it out of his car unharmed but was taken away by on-track medical staff for observation.

It’s unknown what caused the fire, which came towards the end of the opening day of the Ipswich SuperSprint event.
