Bathurst 1000 champion Paul Morris has slammed fire marshals for their lack of response after his car caught fire at Queensland Raceway.

Morris’s Ford Falcon burst into flames on Friday during a practice session for the V8 Supercars development series at the Ipswich circuit.

The 47-year-old pulled his flaming car into pitlane but said it took too long for fire marshals to act and begin extinguishing the blaze.

“I was just pissed off how long it took them to get off their arse and do something about the fire,” Morris said.

“You drive up to the fire marshals and I know they’re good blokes and they do their thing but, when you’re sitting in your car, it seems like a long time.”

Morris was able to get out of his car and was later given the all-clear by medical staff despite admitting his face had been a “bit barbecued” in the blaze.

It’s not the first time Morris has been involved in a car fire.

At Oran Park in 2000, Morris’s stalled car was struck by Mark Larkham’s, resulting in both cars going up in flames.

Morris admitted it was a situation he didn’t want to be in again.

“That wasn’t nice, and then I had trouble, I was stuck in the cabin and I couldn’t really see to get out of the car,” he said.

“We’re still looking at what’s damaged now and, if we can fix it, we will. And, if we can’t, we can’t.”
