Australia, led by three-time world champion Jason Crump, have qualified for the final of the Speedway World Cup in Sweden this weekend.

Competing in a four-nation qualifier at King’s Lynn in England on Monday (Tuesday AM AEST), Australia held off rivals Great Britain to take out the event with 45 points to the hosts’ 41.

Australia, whose team comprises Crump, Chris Holder, Troy Batchelor and Davey Watt, join Sweden and Russia at the final, which is held in Malilla, Sweden on Saturday (Sunday AM AEST).

The Czech Republic finished third with 30 points to join Great Britain in an elimination qualifier against Poland and Denmark on Thursday (Friday AM AEST), while Germany finished fourth and are eliminated.

“It was a pretty tough meeting all the way through. The Brits started off really well and we were up against it the whole time,” Holder told www.speedwaygp.com.

“They nearly got us and it was quite tight. We weren’t really comfortable, but we had a good last few races and sealed it.”

The 2012 Speedway World Cup final begins on Saturday at 7pm (Sunday 0300 AEST).
