Greece’s Acropolis Rally has been left off the 2014 World Rally Championship calendar, organisers revealed on Friday.

This is the third time the 60-year-old Greek event has been left out of the WRC competition, the previous years being 1974 and 2010.

“The organising committee of the Acropolis Rally will do whatever possible to return to the 2015 calendar, exploiting our one-year absence to build up our case,” the announcement said.

The 13-round 2014 championship was decided Friday at a meeting of the FIA World Motor Sport Council in Dubrovnik, Croatia.

Like this year, the 2014 season kicks off in mid-January in Monte Carlo and finishes with the Rally of Great Britain in November.

The Rally of Poland, which included a day of competition in bordering Lithuania, will take the place of the Acropolis Rally.
