Wrote To Arataki ended an almost 18-month wait for a win with a determined performance in the Group 3 Frances Tressady Stakes (1400m).
Trainer Matthew Williams made the call to send the mare to a different spelling property after a lackluster spring campaign, hoping a change in environment would spark a turnaround.
After two solid outings this preparation, Wrote To Arataki displayed her signature grit, aided by rain-affected conditions at Flemington. Jockey Dean Yendall credited the softer track for her strong performance.
“She lost her way a bit, but the freshen-up did wonders. She’s come back in fantastic shape,” Yendall said.
“She wasn’t as comfortable first-up on the firmer ground, but when the rain hit, I knew it played right into her hands. She thrives in these conditions.”
Williams was unable to attend the race, as he was away at a family function in Port Fairy.
