Woorim wins Oakleigh Plate

Woorim gave Brisbane trainer Rob Heathcote his first Group One win when he came with a barnstorming finish to grab the Oakleigh Plate at Caulfield on Saturday.

The Show A Heart six-year-old, ridden by Damian Browne, was last in the big field approaching the home turn in the $400,000 1100m feature but unleashed a powerful finishing burst to get up in the last stride.

Woorim was having his first start since finishing seventh to Albert The Fat in the Group One Emirates Stakes (1600m) at Flemington in November and Saturday’s first prize of $240,000 took him past the $1 million prizemoney mark.

“Group One, there it is, lovely,” Heathcote said.

“It’s a Group One, it’s the golden chalice for a trainer.

“We knew our bloke would come with a rush.

“He’s done the job today, what can you say?

“I’m as proud as punch.

“It’s just a dream come true.”

Woorim beat Sydney filly Elite Falls in a photo-finish with another Queenslander, Facile Tigre, a close-up third.
