When you see a $1.10 favourite in a horse race, you usually think Black Caviar or Winx. But no, that’s the opening price for boom three year old Winning Rupert who lines up in the Gold Edition Plate (1200m) this Saturday at Doomben.

The Bjorn Baker trained galloper led all the way and blitzed them first up a fortnight back at Eagle Farm and smashed the track record despite not being fully extended. Easy to see why he opened $1.10, but he has eased to $1.14.

There have only been two firmers to knock him off. The interesting one is the first starter Deep Image, trained by David Vandyke. He bolted up in a Sunny Coast trial and has had admirers, into $19 from $26. The other one with support is Rich Affair, who resumes. He opened $31 and has trimmed to $21.
