Australia’s leading trainer Darren Weir has collected his seventh Group One of the season with Humidor winning the Australian Cup at Flemington.
Defying the racing pattern of the day, Humidor settled back in the field before producing a powerful finishing burst to defeat last year’s Caulfield Cup winner Jameka with Exospheric in third place.
Weir now has intentions of heading to Sydney for The BMW at Rosehill on March 25, providing Humidor recovers well from his Australian Cup victory.
Humidor opened as the $4.20 favourite with WilliamHill.com.au before the well backed Caulfield Cup winner Jameka ($4) took the title leading into race time.
