The pursuit of his own Sydney training record is not something Chris Waller is dwelling on heading towards the end of the season.
After a treble at Randwick on Saturday, Waller sits on 153-1/2 and needs 15 winners over five meetings to set a new mark.
He has runners in five races at the Warwick Farm midweek meeting and entries in seven of the eight races at Rosehill on Saturday including four in the Listed Winter Stakes (1400m).
Coup Ay Tee, Hidden Kisses, Tromso and Tougher Than Ever are among nine entries for the Winter Stakes with Bart and James Cummings nominating The Peak and three-year-old filly Romantic Moon.
Another three-year-old, the Paul Perry-trained Wouldnt it Be Nice, is also in the mix along with last-start Civic Stakes winner Generalife and the in-form Scream Machine.
“I never let a premiership or a record change anything in the way we do things,” Waller said.
“You have to get the job done in the first part of the season and continue to train 14 winners a month to reach the total.
“I don’t think I can break the record.
“My job is to train winners and if it happens it happens.”
The feature race may be the hardest for Waller on Saturday with Scream Machine looking for his third successive victory.
Trainer Jason Coyle thought enough of Scream Machine to nominate him for the Stradbroke Handicap but he was an emergency and missed a run in the Group One sprint in Brisbane.
He has beaten similar fields over 1400 and 1500 metres at Rosehill at his past two starts.
Waller has three entries – Double Happy and last-start winners Dupe `Em and Harrier Jet – in the 1200m race for two-year-olds.
Waller has trained 14 individual two-year-old winners this season and will have extra numbers for the next term with the addition of Denise Martin’s Star Thoroughbreds team of youngsters.
