News:

Having just failed to get a run in the Australian Oaks, Zasorceress will now press her claims for another fillies’ Classic.

Zasorceress was first emergency in Saturday’s Australian Oaks (2400m) won by Sofia Rosa and trainer Jason Warren now plans to start her instead in Saturday’s Frank Packer Plate (2000m) at Randwick.

“It was disappointing she didn’t get a run in the Oaks, but it was a high-class race and it’s probably worked out better,” Warren said.

“Providing she gets a run this Saturday she’s not going to run into any horses that have proven themselves at Group One level, you wouldn’t think.

“The Frank Packer Plate was always our back-up, being a Group Three race.

“We’ll have to assess how she goes and then decide if we give her a little let-up and go to Brisbane or we put her on a plane and fly to Adelaide and run in the Australasian Oaks in three weeks.”

The Group One Australasian Oaks on May 7 is over 2000m at Morphettville while the Queensland Oaks (2400m) is on June 4.

“We really need her to do something this weekend to ensure she gets a run wherever we go,” Warren said.

“Even though she was stakes placed the other day, she’s still a maiden and she needs to get a bit more money in the bank.”

Zasorceress had five starts in maiden class in Victoria for one minor placing before giving her supporters a sight in the Group Three Adrian Knox Stakes last Saturday week when she stepped up to 2000m for the first time.

The Zabeel filly led and kicked away topping the Randwick rise only to be run down late to finish third behind Diamond Made and Alaskan Rose.

Warren said Zasorceress had always shown above average ability.

“She has just got herself into a bit of trouble in the shorter races, and all the maidens she started in were pretty strong maidens,” Warren said.

“She had shown enough to think the further the races got the better she would get, and we were right.”

The Packer Plate has 16 nominations with a field limit of 13 plus emergencies.
