Widgee Turf had conditions to suit last start when he was able to sit back off a hot pace and storm down the outside recording the fastest last 600/400 of the day.
The race was run to suit that day but certainly it was against the pattern of the day which favoured those on the rail.
Importantly, that still wasn’t his best rating and as such he still has room to step again back to a proven peak or indeed to a new peak.
He has shown the ability to sit closer to the pace previously but from the 2nd outside barrier he’ll probably go back again.
There doesn’t look to be a strong pace so that is of concern, but he has a clear edge over the field and with only eight runners, he won’t have too much distance to make up.
With his acceleration and the sectionals, he can run and I’m confident he can.
