News:

Promising mare Golden Falls will have only a light summer campaign unless she can win a wildcard into the rich Magic Millions carnival.

Golden Falls has accepted for the Listed Tattersall’s Arcade Classic at Doomben on Saturday where she is set to meet a field of speedy fillies and mares.

It will be her first start since storming home to win over 1400m at Rosehill on August 1.

The win was typical of Golden Falls who possesses a withering finish and she is one of the many horses in Brisbane who have been disadvantaged by the 18 months closure of Eagle Farm.

Trainer Kelly Schweida has not rushed Golden Falls at any stage of her career and the daughter of Encosta de Lago has had seven starts for three wins and three minor placings.

Schweida said he feared Saturday’s field might be too quick for his mare around the tight Doomben circuit.

However, his confidence was boosted when Golden Falls drew barrier one which means she could be ridden closer.

“There are a couple who can really fly in the field and they might run her off her feet but at this stage she will be going around,” Schweida said.

He said he was a fortnight behind with Golden Falls who appeared to have been bitten by a spider while out spelling.

“She was treated for it and that has hindered us that little bit to get her back into work,” he added.

Schweida said the plan had always been to give Golden Falls a light summer campaign.

“She didn’t go through a sales ring and at this stage is ineligible for the Magic Millions race day.”

Schweida said the only thing which could change those plans would be if Golden Falls won a wildcard race to the Magic Millions race day.

The $10 million Magic Millions race day is on January 9 and is restricted to horses to have gone through the company’s sales.

But there will be a several wildcard races in the lead-up which will mean a non-sales horse can run in the Millions races.
