Chris Waller splits Magic Millions hopefuls
Champion trainer Chris Waller has elected to split his Magic Millions troops between Brisbane and Sydney as they have their final hit outs for the big Gold Coast meeting.
Waller paid up for several of his horses at Eagle Farm and Randwick on Saturday and analysed the final fields closely before making final decisions.
His Queensland manager Paul Shailer said Blondeau (B J McLachlan), Tumultous (Shoot Out), Le Juge (Bernborough) and Sambro (Bernborough) would run in Brisbane.
“Invincibella and Madam Rouge will miss the Nudgee Quality at Eagle Farm and stay in Sydney this week,” Shailer said.
“Invincibella is being aimed at winning the Magic Millions fillies and mares three years in a row. The Nudgee has never been a race for topweights and Chris felt the Sydney race suited her better.”
Glen Boss will ride Blondeau, an impressive second at Rosehill at his only start which has earned him second favouritism for the Magic Millions 2YO Classic on January 11.
He is currently 46th on the order of entry for the Classic with only $8,900 in prize money..
He will need to finish first or second in the McLachlan to make the Magic Millions Classic field.
“Chris has made it clear he has a good bunch of Millions horses and Blondeau is near the top of them,” Shailer said.
A $360,000 Magic Millions yearling, Blondeau has also been earmarked for the Group One Golden Slipper.
Boss was keen to make the trip to partner Blondeau after the colt’s unlucky debut.
“Good horse, bad ride,” he said.
Boss and Waller have teamed this season to win the $14 million Everest with Yes Yes Yes and the Epsom Handicap and $7.5 million Golden Eagle with Kolding.
