The 2020 Group 1 Vinery Stud Stakes over 2000m for the three year old fillies has attracted a near capacity field of 13 and we are set for another much anticipated rematch between Funstar and Probabeel.

The Chris Waller trained Funstar and the Kiwi filly Probabeel have met twice during the 2020 Sydney Autumn Carnival; with the honours being split with a win each.

The Jamie Richards trained Probabeel proved too strong in winning the Group 1 Surround Stakes (1400m), with Funstar a close second, but then the placings were reversed in the Group 2 Phar Lap Stakes (1500m).

Waller will also saddle up Subpoenaed and Nudge to try to get some black type alongside of their names for the future.

Funstar

Funstar set the pace last start to record an all the way over Probabeel in the Group 2 Phar Lap Stakes at Rosehill and was strong at the end of the 1500m, indicating that she should be able to handle the extra distance of the Vinery Stud Stakes. Funstar was able to beat Probabeel twice during the 2019 Sydney Spring Carnival, which included her win in the Group 1 Flight Stakes over 1600m at Randwick. James McDonald rides Funstar again and the combination will be hard to beat.

Probabeel

The Jamie Richards trained Probabeel was quick to get on the scoreboard when she arrived from New Zealand and proved too strong for Funstar in winning the Group 1 Surround Stakes over 1400m at Randwick but then couldn’t match it with Funster when second behind that filly in the Group 2 Phar Lap Stakes at Rosehill. Probabeel is also stepping up to the 2000m of the Vinery Stud Stakes for the first time and it is going to be another intriguing battle with Funstar.

Missile Mantra

Missile Mantra wasn’t beaten very far when fifth in the Group 1 Surround Stakes (1400m) at Randwick and then ran on from the back for fourth in the Group 3 Kembla Grange Classic (1600m) at Kembla Grange on March 13. The Peter and Paul Snowden trained filly was a nose second in the Group 1 Thousand Guineas over 1600m at Caulfield during the 2019 Melbourne Spring Carnival and the step up to the 2000m might suit her. Could be the one to cause an upset.

Fascino

Melbourne filly Fascino has been thereabouts of late and will be fitter for two runs back from a spell, her latest a third in the Group 2 Kewney Stakes (1400m) at Flemington on March 7. Tougher here.

Asiago

Asiago earned her chance to tackle a Group 1 for the fillies with her narrow win in the Group 3 Kembla Grange Classic (1600m) at Kembla Grange on March 13. Hugh Bowman to ride, but she has to overcome the outside gate in the 13 horse Vinery Stud Stakes field.

Subpoenaed

Subpoenaed ran on from the back when fifth in the Group 3 Kembla Grange Classic (1600m) at Kembla Grange on March 13 but will find this tough going. The Chris Waller trained filly is still eligible for restricted grade.

Game Of Thorns

Game Of Thorns was a winner two starts back in a 1400m Newcastle Benchmark 64 Handicap and looks way of her class here on her last start ninth to Asiago in the Kembla Grange Classic (1600m).

Nudge

Nudge is another restricted class filly coming out of the Group 3 Kembla Grange Classic (1600m) when tenth and looking for something easier.

Shout The Bar

Co-trainers Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott will saddle up Shout The Bar and that’s what they will be doing if the long priced filly can down the favourites in the Vinery Stud Stakes. Shout The Bar fought on well when a nose second to Asiago in the Group 3 Kembla Grange Classic (1600m) last start but harder here.

Contrition

The Caulfield training partnership of Mick Price and Michael Kent (Jrn) will be praying for a miracle for the $101 chance Contrition to down the more fancied fillies in the Vinery Stud Stakes. The lightly raced filly was a winner two starts back in a 1590m Wangaratta Benchmark 64 Handicap followed by a seventh in a 1600m BenchMark 70 Handicap at The Valley.

Aspect Ratio

Aspect Ratio is another filly at long odds to make any impression in the Vinery Stud Stakes. The John Sargent trained filly was beaten more than ten lengths last start when fourth in the Group 2 Phar Lap Stakes (1500m) at Rosehill.

Love Me Quietly

Love Me Quietly is well out of her depth in the Vinery Stud Stakes.

Strange Charm

Strange Charm is one of the outsiders of  the field after finishing eleventh in the Group 3 Kembla Grange Classic (1600m).
