Villiers Stakes 2012 target for Scream Machine

Less than a week ago, trainer Jason Coyle nominated four year old gelding Scream Machine as the ideal Villiers Stakes (1600m) prospect. But those plans have changed, and the horse will run this Saturday at Rosehill in the Greg Houston Plumbing Handicap (1900m).

The son of Excites was ridden a treat last week by Kathy O’Hara to take a narrow split between runners and record a thrilling win. Coyle says that his galloper has taken no harm from the run.

“He has done very well since winning on Saturday,” He said.

“He is fit, healthy and I couldn’t be happier with him heading into this race.”

Coyle stated in the media after that win last week that the horse would be heading towards the Villiers Stakes. But a rethink has led to the Group l winning trainer eyeing off better races next year.

“This start will be his last this time in,” The trainer stated.

“This will give him time to have a break while we decide on plans for Sydney, and possibly Brisbane.”

The gelding has coped with tricky barriers in the past and again he has been dealt another one this Saturday; barrier eight of eleven; but that doesn’t concern Coyle and he says that the tactics will be left to O’Hara, who has retained the ride.

“From the barrier, as at his previous outings, I will leave it up to the pilot,” Coyle told justhorseracing.

“Kathy is riding in great form and rides the horse very well.”

Scream Machine’s record on the quick back up reads well and the Warwick Farm based horseman was quite bullish about his chances of recording his fourth city winner for the season.

“He has backed up well in the past, and the way he has recovered from last week I am confident he will race well again.”
