2025 Vain Stakes, Quezette Stakes good spring Pointers

Lindsay Park will head to Caulfield on Saturday with strong representation in both the $300,000 Group 2 Lawrence Stakes and the day’s key three-year-old contests. While the stable has major contenders in the feature, its prospects in the Vain Stakes and Quezette Stakes are equally noteworthy.

Among them is Scenic Point, a filly sitting atop early markets for the Group 1 Thousand Guineas (1600m) on Caulfield Cup Day. She will defend her unbeaten record in the $200,000 Group 3 Quezette Stakes (1100m) after wins in a Pakenham maiden and the Listed Redoute’s Choice Stakes.

Trainer Ben Hayes believes she has made the necessary progression from two to three.

“She looks like she’s taken the improvement you want to see from their two-year-old year,” Hayes said. “She’s probably one of the more exciting three-year-olds coming out of our stable. It’s a real traditional kick-off and she’s ready to run first-up. She’s going into it with improvement, but she’s ready to go.”

Hayes has won the Quezette Stakes before, in partnership with Tom Dabernig, courtesy of Bella Nipotina—who went on to become a three-time Group 1 winner and the only mare to claim The Everest.

Past winners of the Vain Stakes include Giga Kick, Cylinder, Bivouac, and Starspangledbanner, while the Quezette honour roll features Sunlight and Alinghi.

This year’s Quezette also includes Signature Scent, unbeaten in two starts, along with Group winners The Playwright and Icarian Dream, Blue Diamond placegetter My Gladiola, and Listed winner Blue Hotel.

Lindsay Park’s Vain Stakes hopes rest with Shining Smile, chasing a sixth straight win, and Tycoon Star, runner-up in the Blue Diamond, who will face a strong line-up including Sydney raider Shaggy, The Showdown winner McGaw, and promising pair Jimmy Recard and Sonofkirk.
