Two Melbourne Cup contenders in doubt

Racing Victoria veterinarians have completed their inspection of the 36 second acceptors for the Emirates Melbourne Cup (3200m) with two contenders failing and will require another inspection tomorrow morning.

The RV veterinarians have passed 34 horses as suitable to accept for Tuesday’s $6.25 million Melbourne Cup at tomorrow’s 4.30pm deadline.

Jon Snow and Harlem have not been passed and will need to be re-examined by RV veterinarians tomorrow morning to determine their suitability to accept.

The RV veterinarians are concerned with an injury to Harlem’s left eye that is currently being treated by the stable and with both of Jon Snow’s fore feet.

As Harlem is engaged to compete in the Lexus Stakes (2500m) at Flemington tomorrow, he will be inspected prior to the 7.30am scratching deadline for that race.

Those Cup entrants that contest the Lexus Stakes will be re-examined by RV veterinarians following the race to re-confirm their suitability to accept.
