Top apprentice Brayden Gaerth lands Group ride in Belmont Sprint 2025

After landing a Saturday double at Belmont and celebrating his first $100,000 win, rising apprentice Brayden Gaerth is hopeful of more success as he takes the reins on Admiration Express in Saturday’s Group 3 Belmont Sprint (1400m).

Gaerth showed poise and precision to guide Camera Action to victory in the Racing WA Provincial Championship Series Final last weekend and now takes on the biggest opportunity of his budding career aboard Jason Miller’s talented mare.

Admiration Express resumes after a standout summer campaign, which included a close second to Light Infantry Man in the Group 1 Northerly Stakes (1800m) last December.

With regular jockey Lucy Fiore committed to Northam Stakes winner West Star in the Belmont Sprint, Miller had no hesitation giving the ride to Gaerth.

“I’m happy to put him on,” Miller told Racing WA. “His confidence is high and he does a lot of work with the stable. He’s riding well.”

Admiration Express showed promise early, capturing the Group 3 Champion Fillies Stakes (1600m) as a three-year-old and later winning the Coolgardie Cup before her brave effort in the Northerly.

She kicks off her winter campaign this weekend, with the Hyperion Stakes (1600m) and Strickland Stakes (2000m) also on the agenda. Miller confirmed Fiore will reunite with the mare for those two races.

“She’s done really well since the trials and I can’t fault her,” Miller said. “She might be vulnerable first up at 1400m, but you never write off good horses.”

In other stable news, Admire The Girl will aim to remain unbeaten this prep when she lines up in Wednesday’s Kalgoorlie-Boulder Reunion Handicap (1200m) at Belmont, with William Pike in the saddle.

“She’s going well, but there are some nice ones in it,” Miller said. “Nickleplay and Simon Miller’s Magnique look hard to beat.”
