Time To Plunder to be set for greys race

Time To Plunder may not be among the top sprinters but Brisbane trainer Liam Birchley believes he can find his niche in the Melbourne spring.

Birchley will set the five-year-old for the Subzero series restricted to grey horses with the final held at Flemington during Melbourne Cup week.

Time To Plunder won Saturday’s Yalumba Wines Hcp (1200m) at the Sunshine Coast feature meeting with Damian Browne aboard.

Another Queenslander, Black Cash, won last year’s $100,000 Subzero Final and ran third behind Alma’s Fury in Saturday’s Listed Glasshouse Hcp (1400m).

“The Subzero is an ideal race for Time To Plunder,” Birchley said.

“But he has a few funny quirks and you need the right jockey on him.”

“Damian is the man for the job. He can get horses to relax, even those like Time To Plunder who doesn’t like being in among horses.

“Then he got pushed into the wrong part of the track but Damian still got the best out of him.”

Browne has been a regular vistor to Melbourne over the past few years, riding successfully for Darley and Robert Heathcote.

He and Birchley combined to win the Listed Alinghi Stakes with Liesele at Caulfield last year.

One of Birchley’s other successes in Melbourne was with Emmalene in the 2011 Listed Gucci Stakes and several members of the syndicate which raced that mare are part-owners of Time To Plunder.

Time To Plunder has now won seven races and more than $200,000 prize money meaning he should have little trouble getting a start in the challenge races.
