Tiara Star to line-upin BJ McLachlan Stakes field

Tiara Star is set to run in the Group Three BJ McLachlan Stakes at Eagle Farm in a last-ditch effort to make the Magic Millions Classic field.

The Toby Edmonds-trained youngster lifted her prize money to $26,000 with an impressive win at the Sunshine Coast last Wednesday.

But she is well outside the field for the $2 million Classic at the Gold Coast on January 14 and would need to at least run a place in Saturday’s McLachlan to gain a start.

Edmonds has high hopes for Tiara Star who seems to have appreciated the addition of blinkers to her race gear.

“The blinkers got her going at the Sunshine Coast but I believe she is looking for 1200 metres now,” Edmonds said.

“She broke 57 seconds for the 1000 metres at the Sunshine Coast and that is very good going.”

Edmonds said it was probably a mistake trying to qualify Tiara Star early for the Millions as she was green at her two starts in October which yielded a second and a fourth.

“I just want to see how she comes up before committing her on Saturday. The other option is to run at the Gold Coast on Saturday week,” Edmonds said.

“Le Chef ran on the Saturday before the Millions and won so there is a precedent.”

By American stallion Congrats out of stakes winner Tenant’s Tiara. Tiara Star is raced by one of breeder Stuart Ramsay’s syndicates.

Tiara Star is one of 22 entries for the McLachlan which include her stablemate Houtzen, a debut winner at Doomben on Saturday.

Houtzen is in a much better place to get a Magic Millions start and is currently 17th on the ballot list.
