Tenley stakes Golden Slipper claims

The Godolphin two-year-old train keeps rolling on with Tenley showing her debut midweek victory was no fluke with a barnstorming win in the Pierro Plate at Randwick.

She was slow out of the gates and Kerrin McEvoy dropped her out last in Saturday’s 1100m-race and let her loose in the straight.

Tenley ($10) overhauled All Cylinders ($14) to win by 1-3/4 lengths with Jonah ($9.50) another long head third.

Favourite Covert Ops ($4,.20) found little at the business end of the race, beating one runner home after being on the pace early.

Godolphin representative Darren Beadman said Tenley was one of the top tier of youngsters in the stable.

“She’s right up there with the main group,” Beadman said.

“She’s made the natural progression from her first win (November).

“She’s can be a bit laconic so James (Cummings) elected to put the blinkers on. Up against the better two-year-olds you need a bit of zest.

“She is a real quality filly and there are bigger things in store.

“Sheikh Mohammed’s got a lovely group of two-year-olds that we’ve got to work with.”

The group includes Tasssort and Exhilarates who head 2019 Golden Slipper markets at $4.50 and $8 respectively.

Tenley firmed from $101 to $26 after her win.

McEvoy agreed Tenley had more to give.

“She missed the start a little bit but she picked up really well,” he said.

“From the 400 metres onwards she was strong right to the line.

“She’s a star filly on the rise.”
