Tattersall’s Members’ Cup test for promising Right Or Wrong

The winter carnival path for promising galloper Right Or Wrong should become clearer after he tackles the Listed Tattersall’s Members’ Cup at Doomben.

A win could result in Right Or Wrong being given the chance to earn a start in the Group One Stradbroke Handicap on June 11 but a failure will make that mission much harder.

Right Or Wrong has been one of the finds of the Brisbane summer and has won his past three starts.

Trainer Lindsay Gough has a big opinion of Right Or Wrong who was placed in stakes company as a three-year-old when second in the Daybreak Lover Classic at Doomben.

However, the gelding missed the rest of the winter to race in Darwin where he finished second in the Northern Territory Derby.

Gough says Saturday’s race will be an important fork in the road.

“We should get a better idea of which way to go after Saturday,” Gough said.

“We were going to spell him but we thought we should strike while the iron is hot in stakes class.

“If he can win on Saturday it will lift his rating and prize money to a level where we can start looking at the better winter races.

“The rating needed to get in seems to vary year to year but if he can’t get into a Stradbroke, there are some good stakes races around 1600 metres in the winter which would also suit.”

Gough has a small team of horses in work but he has been in form with six winners from his past eight runners.

His best horse to date has been Group Three winner Rampant Lion but if Gough’s opinion o Right Or Wrong is proven correct, the gelding could soon assume that mantle.

Jockey Robbie Fradd will ride Right Or Wrong on Saturday after successfully appealing a careless riding suspension.

Newcastle trainer Kris Lees has elected to bypass the Tattersall’s Members’ Cup with Slow Pace who isn’t among the acceptors.

“He isn’t a particularly good traveller and Right Or Wrong looks a handy horse. We will stay at home this time,” Lees said.
