As a jockey, Ron Quinton won a host of juvenile races including a record-equalling four Golden Slippers.

As a trainer, he has few two-year-old runners, exercising patience with youngsters in his care.

Dixie Blossoms, a debut winner at Canterbury on Wednesday is an example and the trainer is looking to another three-year-old filly to do the same in a 1400m-maiden at Randwick on Friday.

Bulla Baby is a daughter of the Quinton-trained 2002 VRC Oaks winner Bulla Borghese who was one of the stable’s runners up and running at two.

“Bulla Baby is by a pretty good sire in Manhattan Rain I’m really looking forward to her first start,” Quinton said.

“She has been a bit immature and has taken a while. She has had a few little things go wrong.

“But all’s well now and I expect her to run creditably and keep on improving.”

While she is not as big as her mother was, Quinton says there are similarities between the two.

“She has attitude,” he said.

“Her mother had it. The good ones usually do.”

To be ridden by Sam Clipperton, Bulla Baby is a $12 chance with the Gerald Ryan-trained Miss Sydney the TAB’s $3.80 favourite.
