The Group 1 Tancred Stakes meeting has been rescheduled to Tuesday after heavy rainfall forced officials to postpone the original 10-race event.
Initially rated a slow 7 on Saturday morning, the track was expected to deteriorate further with up to 50mm of rain predicted throughout the day. Given the conditions, an early decision was made to delay the meeting.
Chief steward Steve Railton, speaking on Sydney radio Saturday morning, explained that while the surface might have managed a race or two, the forecast was too concerning. “I couldn’t have any level of comfort that we’d get through more than a race or two, and that would be wasting everybody’s time,” Railton stated.
After consultations, racing officials confirmed that the meeting would now take place at Rosehill on Tuesday, with all race fields remaining unchanged and any scratchings being reinstated.
The change has also impacted barrier trials originally scheduled for Tuesday, which have now been pushed to Friday.
Additionally, the provincial meeting set for Saturday at the NSW Central Coast was abandoned, with the Provincial-Midway Championships Wild Card (1350m) now added to Wyong’s Thursday program.
The Rosehill meeting will showcase the much-anticipated return of globetrotting stayer Dubai Honour in the Group 1 Tancred Stakes (2400m) and the Sydney debut of star filly Treasurethe Moment in the Group 1 Vinery Stud Stakes (2000m).
