Horse Racing News: Take two for Jadzia at Caulfield races

Cooler conditions at Caulfield have prompted Grahame Begg to delay the debut of promising filly Jadzia by a week.

The two-year-old was originally set to contest a division of the Blue Diamond Preview (1000m) last Saturday but was scratched after Begg opted not to risk her in the extreme heat.

Instead, Jadzia will make her race debut in the Group 3 Chairman’s Stakes (1000m) this weekend.

“I wasn’t 100 per cent happy with her on race morning last week, so I bit the bullet and pulled her out,” Begg said.

“Unless they’re absolutely right, you can’t take risks with them.

“With the temperatures forecast to be so high, it wasn’t ideal to be running her on a firm track. She was also only nine days off a trial, so the extra week could end up being a blessing.”

Jadzia will attempt to emulate stablemate Mildred, who won the Chairman’s Stakes for Begg in 2020.

Begg reported the filly has trained on well since, having pleased in a gallop at Cranbourne earlier in the week.

“She’s come on nicely since arriving at the stable,” he said.

“She was a Magic Millions winter yearling and didn’t join us until December, so she’s had a slightly different preparation.

“What she’s shown in her jump-out and trial has been more than satisfactory.”

Begg said Saturday’s run would determine whether Jadzia progresses to the Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m).

“Ideally you’d like two runs before something like a Blue Diamond, but we’ll assess that after the weekend,” he said.

“She’s also nominated for the Golden Slipper, so there are options.”

Those following the race can find markets and prices via leading Australian betting sites ahead of Saturday’s feature.
