Sydney, Melbourne options for Yosei

A return race for Yosei is uncertain as trainer Stuart Webb prepares to accept with the triple Group One winner for stakes events in Sydney and Melbourne.

Yosei has been nominated to resume in five races, including the Group One Oakleigh Plate at Caulfield on Saturday.

“All I’ve done is confuse myself about where to start her off,” Webb said.

The four-year-old also holds a Caulfield entry for the Group Three Mannerism Stakes.

She is also nominated for the Southern Cross Stakes and Triscay Stakes at Rosehill on Saturday as well as a Moonee Valley race on Friday night in which she has been asked to carry 64.5kg.

“She’ll be an acceptor in the Southern Cross Stakes in Sydney as well as one of the races in Melbourne on Saturday,” Webb said.

“There’s a bit to weigh up. The Mannerism is 1400 metres and she’s not quite ready for that trip but the race could drop away.

“The Oakleigh Plate looks like being one of the best editions in years but there should be a heap of speed on and that will help her to run on late.”

Yosei has 57kg in the Southern Cross Stakes – 2.5kg less than topweight Secret Admirer.

“She seems fairly weighted against Secret Admirer, there’s no problems there,” Webb said.

Yosei won the Group One Sires’ Produce at Randwick as a two-year-old before claiming the Group One Thousand Guineas during the 2010 Melbourne spring carnival.

She bolstered her Group One record in the Tattersall’s Tiara at Eagle Farm last year.

Webb said a quick turnaround from the Tiara to her 2011 spring campaign didn’t work out as she struggled to find top form.

“This time she’s been able to have a really good spell and hopefully it will make all the difference,” he said.

Yosei’s major autumn targets will be in Sydney with Webb setting the mare for the Coolmore Classic and the Queen Of The Turf Stakes – both Group Ones against her own sex – during the Rosehill leg of the carnival.
