The Melbourne Festival of Racing reaches a crescendo tomorrow with Super Saturday at Flemington, offering a winning combination of Group 1 racing, entertainment and autumn fashion, including the prestigious Myer Fashions on the Field competition.
Autumn’s premier raceday boasts an all black-type racecard including two Group 1 co-feature races – the Dubai Australian Cup and Lexus Newmarket Handicap.
The Myer Fashions on the Field Women’s and Men’s Autumn Racewear competitions will unearth the season’s most fashionable racegoers, with the impressive purse of prizes including Lexus drive vehicles for 12 months, Grand Hyatt Getaway packages, a Heli-Serv Spa Dreaming tour package, Myer Shopping Sprees, Antler luggage, Lavazza Coffee Lovers packs and Mumm Cuvee Prestige R.Lalou 1999.
Channel Seven’s stylish Fifi Box returns to hosting duties, while the star-studded judging panel is headlined by Myer Fashions on the Field Ambassador Nadia Coppolino, Myer racing Ambassador Rebecca Judd and Myer Menswear Ambassador Kris Smith.
The best staying horses in the land – including Americain, Illo, Glass Harmonium, Southern Speed and Manighar – chase a million dollar pay cheque in the 150th edition of the weight-for-age Dubai Australian Cup over 2000m at 4pm.
Hay List, Rain Affair and Foxwedge headline a field of 23 in Australia’s premier sprint, the $1 million Lexus Newmarket Handicap at 3.15pm.
Black Caviar’s half-brother All Too Hard will step up to 1400m in the Group 2 Henry Bucks Sires’ Produce Stakes at 1.15 pm. The million dollar colt easily won his first start over 1100m at Flemington, echoing Black Caviar’s racing debut at the same track.
Better Loosen Up will parade in the mounting yard before the Dubai Australian Cup. The Living Legends racehorse won the race in 1991.
