News:

Trainer Desleigh Forster has a good luck charm which she is sure has helped her cause a huge upset with veteran Someday in the $300,000 Listed Bernborough Hcp (1600m) at Doomben.

Nine-year-old Someday ($31) came from the tail of the field to beat Ruettiger ($8) by 1-1/2 lengths with 1-1/4 lengths to Hopfgarten ($9) third.

Forster won the Bernborough 12 months ago with Cylinder Beach who was put down when he was injured in the O’Shea Stakes in June.

She is still emotionally attached to Cylinder Beach which she considered her best horse.

Her staff decided to make her a special present for Christmas of a bracelet made from the tail hair of Cylinder Beach.

“We had a barbecue last Saturday for Christmas and the staff gave me a bracelet made from Cylinder Beach’s tail. I haven’t taken it off and I haven’t stopped training winners,” Forster said.

“I have had five runners for three winners and two minor placings.”

Someday was once considered a top galloper and won the 2014 Brisbane Handicap before having a string of injuries.

He has been with Forster for about nine months for one previous win.

“The owners were talking about retiring him but I never lost confidence in him. I had him in the Villiers in Sydney and decided to wait for this race,” Forster said.

“I told (jockey) Michael (Walker) not to worry about his form as he has had no luck.”

Forster usually watches races from the grandstand or saddling enclosure but had to watch the race on television in the Trainers Bar.

She was running late after tending to fellow trainer Melanie O’Gorman who was kicked by a horse.

“I was in the bar and screaming and I they were all looking at me like I was mad,” she said.

“This really is an emotional day.”

Jeff Lloyd said Ruettiger had finished hard after being suited by a very quick early pace.

Ron Stewart said Hopfgarten had again been brave under his big weight.
