The Spring Champion Stakes headlines another exciting program at Royal Randwick on Saturday and twelve three-year-olds will chase Group 1 success.
Typically, this is one of the most open Group 1 races of the season and the 2022 Spring Champion Stakes looms as a terrific betting race.
I’ve run the rule over the lot, and you can find my complete 2022 Spring Champion Stakes Tips below
Spring Champion Stakes – Winner
No. 4 Williamsburg
I’ve had Williamsburg underlined as my Spring Champion Stakes winner since autumn, and I don’t want to jump off now!
The well-bred colt has recorded four wins and a further three minors from his ten career starts to date and stamped himself as one to watch during his two-year-old season by winning the Fernhill Handicap, and filling the minors in the Champagne Stakes.
His win in the Dulcify Quality two back was eye-catching and he was less than a head behind the winner in the Gloaming Stakes last time out.
His dam, Fenway, won a Group 1 race over 2000m, and Williamsburg looks to be at peak fitness for his Spring Champion Stakes tilt.
Spring Champion Stakes – 2nd
No. 2 Elliptical
Breeding suggests that Elliptical will be at his best in the Spring Champion Stakes and his early market favouritism is therefore understandable
The Dundeel colt stamped himself as one to watch by breaking his maiden on debut at Sandown back in June, and he has continued to improve in each of his four career starts, culminating in a close-up second behind Golden Mile in the Neds Caulfield Guineas a fortnight ago.
Out to 2000m and under Blake Shinn, I can’t find a reason why he won’t be in the finish again.
Spring Champion Stakes – 3rd
No. 2 Promitto
Promitto is proven over 2000m, and I wouldn’t be surprised to see him crowned the 2022 Spring Champion Stakes winner.
The Divine Prophet colt has been the stable star for Newcastle horseman David Atkins since making his debut, and he ended his two-year-old season with a lovely win in the Group 2 Skyline Stakes.
He has continued to improve with each start back this time, and I thought that he was excellent amongst open company in last weekend’s Craven Plate; filling the minors behind Cascadian.
I like that he is on the short back up and Josh Parr can give him every chance from barrier 5.
Spring Champion Stakes – 4th
No. 11 She’s Extreme
Group 1 winner She’s Extreme has stripped fitter for three starts back this time, and I am excited to see what she can produce over 2000m in the Spring Champion Stakes.
The Extreme Choice filly was a consistent performer during her two-year-old season, and she was rewarded by ruining the party for Triple Crown hopeful Fireburn in the Group 1 Champagne Stakes.
She has placed in two of three back this time and was last seen finishing second in the Flight Stakes.
With even luck from the wide draw, I am confident that She’s Extreme’s class will take her a long way towards winning.
