Glyn Schofield has earned high praise from Sydney’s leading stable after riding Vanbrugh to win the Spring Champion Stakes at Randwick.

A drifting favourite to give the Chris Waller and Glyn Schofield combination their third Group One win for the season, Vanbrugh lost his forward position in the middle stages before producing a late run.

At the finish, Vanbrugh held a comfortable margin over I’m Belucci which gained a photo decision to take second from Man Of Choice.

“He (Schofield) has a knack of being very patient … and that’s what experience buys you,” Waller stable racing manager Liam Prior said.

Vanbrugh had been an odds-on favourite for the Spring Champion after his Gloaming Stakes win but the colt was easy in on-course betting before starting the $2.50 popular pick.
