Spring Racing Carnival 2025 ambitions for unbeaten Scenic Point

The Lindsay Park trio of Ben, Will, and J D Hayes has their eyes on the spring carnival after their rising filly Scenic Point produced another polished performance at Caulfield to remain unbeaten.

Following an eye-catching debut victory at Pakenham, Scenic Point stepped up to stakes company in Saturday’s Listed Redoute’s Choice Stakes (1100m), where she dominated a small field with authority.

Positioned at the rear in the five-runner field under jockey Daniel Stackhouse, Scenic Point, the heavily backed $1.40 favourite, surged past her rivals early in the straight to secure a comfortable win by a length.

Post-race, a protest was lodged by Jye McNeil, rider of Aleppo Pine ($3.90) who crossed the line in third, against runner-up Mednyi ($15). Racing Victoria stewards upheld the objection after a brief review.

Will Hayes spoke on behalf of the stable and noted Scenic Point’s change in demeanor compared to her first-up run.

“She got a little bit hot in the pre-parade which was a little bit different to Pakenham,” Hayes said.

“She’s certainly waking up and is on a big learning curve. I felt today, what she did, was on raw ability and there’s plenty of upside.”

Hayes confirmed that a meeting with the rest of the Lindsay Park team would be held Monday to decide the filly’s immediate future.

He explained that Scenic Point wasn’t ready for a tough campaign like the Blue Diamond Stakes or Golden Slipper, but hinted at future plans.

“We’ll be guided by how she pulls up, but the way she won today you wouldn’t hesitate to go to Sydney, but you also wouldn’t hesitate to put her in the paddock and protect her for the spring,” Hayes said.

“I think she’s a Thousand Guineas type.

“She’s one of those hamburgers with the lot at this stage. She’s shown she can sprint, and she might get out to a middle distance as well.

“She’s got a big frame. She screams three-year-old type and what she has done now is an absolute bonus.

“It’s all based on potential, but what we see is a very talented galloper.”
