Spartan Eagle’s odds of winning next Monday’s Darwin Cup have been crunched from $13 into $4 at Sportingbet Australia after the five-year-old gelding’s impressive victory in Saturday’s Metric Mile at Fannie Bay.
“It was a sensational run and he proved the 2000m of the cup won’t be a problem,” Sportingbet Australia CEO Michael Sullivan said.
“A few smart punters took the $13 we were offering on Saturday morning but they’re still backing him at $4 due to the dominance of that win,” Sullivan said.
Extra Zero, which had been heavily supported from $5.50 into $3.50 for the Darwin Cup prior to the Metric Mile, has drifted back out to $5.50 at Sportingbet.
“Extra Zero might get the services of Nash Rawiller but he’s going to need to improve a lot based on his most recent run,” Sullivan said.
Red Colossus has firmed from $6 into $5 at Sportingbet after finishing strongly in an 1100m race.
The Big Steel has also firmed, from $9 into $7 at Sportingbet, after bets totaling nearly $5,000.
Last year’s winner Hawks Bay has eased from $8 out to $11.
