Sold For Song headed to Sunshine Coast Cup

Tough mare Sold For Song has recovered well from a Melbourne trip and is set to tackle the last feature race of the Queensland summer at the Sunshine Coast.

Before she runs in the Listed Sunshine Coast Cup on Saturday her stablemate Puff’s Girl will make a lightning trip to Sydney for Randwick’s Australia Day meeting.

Trainer Kevin Kemp took Sold For Song to Melbourne where ran third in the Listed Chester Manifold Stakes behind Grande Rosso on January 14.

“I brought her home the day after the run. I thought it was a great effort her first start in Melbourne and having to travel so far,” Kemp said.

“It was a good quality field and gave us an idea of where she is at in her career.”

Kemp said Sold For Song had pleased him she returned home.

“I have never had a horse travel as well as she did. It was a good pointer to the future,” he said.

“I had actually thought about stopping off in Sydney for the Carrington Stakes on Saturday. But our long term goal is to head back to Melbourne in the spring,

“It would be good to pick up some more black type for her, She has raced three times at the Sunshine Coast for a win and minor placings in two black type races.

“The big long straight there suits her racing style because she gets back and charges home.”

The Sunshine Coast Quality will have a capacity field with many open company horses having their last starts before going for spells.

Kemp said he believed Puff’s Girl could be more than competitive at Randwick on Thursday.

“It is a Benchmark 78 race over 1000 metres which is ideal for her. She has been racing well with a win and three seconds from her past four starts,” Kemp said.

“Sydney s always tough for our horses but she is not without a hope. The owners are all flying down to watch so here’s hoping.”
