Trainer Peter Snowden is confident talented filly Memo can make her presence felt first-up if she brings her strong juvenile form to Randwick on Saturday in the Group 2 Silver Shadow Stakes (1200m).
Memo resumes in the opening leg of the four-race Princess Series after a standout two-year-old campaign highlighted by her stylish win in the Magic Night Stakes (1200m) and a runner-up finish in the Magic Millions Classic (1200m) at the Gold Coast.
Snowden said the Zoustar filly has returned a stronger version of herself but doesn’t need to improve greatly to remain competitive at Group level.
“She is a bit stronger, a bit heavier. I’m just hoping she can bring back what she had last time because last time in she was very solid,” Snowden said.
“The indications are there. Her trials have been good… and we’re seeing good signs at home in her work.
“She is on track to run well.”
The Silver Shadow will also see the return of several well-credentialed fillies, including Bjorn Baker’s Sweet Embrace Stakes winner Within The Law and unbeaten Tulloch Lodge runner Agarwood, who makes her black type debut after two wins in May. Percy Sykes Stakes runner-up Savvy Hallie is another key contender, arriving off a maiden win at Newcastle on August 14.
While Memo is yet to race beyond 1200m, Snowden believes she has the scope to stretch her brilliance to longer distances, with the Tea Rose Stakes (1400m) on September 20 looming as a likely target.
“I’m thinking this prep we might get her out a bit further,” he said.
“She may get to a Tea Rose and we’ll go from there.”
