Racing News:

Shortly before Za Zi Ba runs at Rosehill, her high profile stablemate Chauffeur will be given a work-out on their home track.

Za Zi Ba was scratched from a two-year-old race at Hawkesbury on Tuesday in which her stablemate, Didn’t Mention It, finished third.

Instead, Za Zi Ba runs in an 1100m-race on Wednesday.

“She is a nice filly but it’s not an easy race by any means,” trainer Gerald Ryan said.

Za Zi Ba is by All Too Hard out of Wiener, a half sister Snitzel.

Ryan trained both Wiener and Group One winner Snitzel who is the sire of Chauffeur.

The most expensive yearling at last year’s Magic Millions sale, $1.6 million colt Chauffeur finished second to Houtzen in last month’s $2 million sales-related Classic on the Gold Coast.

Chauffeur will gallop after the first race with another well bred stablemate, three-year-old Star Of Monsoon.

The Golden Slipper is the target for Chauffeur while Ryan just wants Star Of Monsoon, whose mother is a sister to champion sire Redoute’s Choice, to win a race.

“He’s probably Australia’s best maiden,” Ryan said.

“He’s had eight starts for seven placings.

“He’s a nice colt and I’d like to see him get some black type.”

Chauffeur is on the fourth line of Golden Slipper betting at $15 and is scheduled to run in the Todman Stakes on Saturday week.

“Most of his prize money is from the Magic Millions so he needs to run one-two to guarantee a start in the Slipper,” Ryan said.

Another Ryan-trained Slipper aspirant by Snitzel is Menari who runs in Saturday’s Skyline Stakes at Randwick.

The colt was the beaten favourite in the Canonbury Stakes on January 28 when he ran second to Pariah after getting held up for a run in the straight.

“He was so unlucky and if he had won last time he would already be in the Slipper but he’s borderline now,” Ryan said.

“He’s good and he’s ready for Saturday.”
