Horse Racing News: Sky is the limit for unbeaten Amreekiyah

Trainer Peter Snowden has ambitious plans for Amreekiyah after the talented filly delivered a dazzling comeback win at Canterbury, underlining her potential for greater challenges ahead.

Despite carrying a hefty 61kg, Amreekiyah ($1.70 fav) was positioned worse than midfield before charging home with an explosive finish to defeat O’Invincible ($14) by half a length in the Broadsiding @ Darley Handicap (1250m).

The performance marked her third consecutive victory, having scored twice in provincial company earlier this year. Snowden wasn’t surprised by the quality of her effort, noting it aligned with her strong trackwork.

“There is plenty more to come with her,” Snowden told Sky Racing.

“She is still very raw yet but she’s got so much potential.

“It was good to see her do something special because she has been showing for a while at home that she is a bit above average.”

Amreekiyah, soon to be a four-year-old, has returned to racing slightly ahead of many spring hopefuls, as Snowden looks to boost her rating and prepare her for upcoming feature races.

“We brought her back for a reason at this time of year,” he said.

“We’re aiming for all those races but little steps first.”

Earlier on the card, Kerber ($8.50) emerged from the shadow of her illustrious sibling In Secret to register her maiden victory at just her second outing.

The I Am Invincible filly, a $1.15 million yearling and daughter of Eloping, showed early speed and fought strongly to hold off Miss Jones ($5.50) in a tight finish.

Jockey Jason Collett was impressed with her effort but believes she’s only scratched the surface of her talent.

“There’s definitely more there. She has still got a bit of growing up to do upstairs,” Collett said.

“Her mind isn’t completely on it yet, so when they’re doing it like that, that’s a sign there is more there to come.”

Chris Waller also found success on the day, with Skyglider leading home a trifecta for the stable in a strong debut win in the Keenland September Yearling Sale Handicap (1200m).
