Horse Racing News: Shining Smile continues winning run

Lindsay Park trainers Ben, Will, and J D Hayes may need to reassess their plans for Shining Star after the colt notched his fourth consecutive win at Flemington.

Following a spring campaign victory at Caulfield, Shining Smile has returned in red-hot form, securing three Stakes-level wins this preparation.

After taking out the Blue Diamond Preview (1000m) at Sandown and the Talindert Stakes (1100m) at Flemington, the talented colt dropped back in distance to claim the Listed TAB We’re On (1000m) in dominant fashion on Saturday.

Guided by Daniel Stackhouse, Shining Smile ($3.40) surged home to win by three-quarters of a length over Prestige Forever ($21), with Marsept ($14) another 1-¼ lengths behind in third.

J D Hayes revealed the stable is considering a Sydney campaign, with Shining Star nominated for the Group 1 ATC Sires’ Produce Stakes (1400m) at Randwick in April.

However, the colt is not entered for the prestigious Golden Slipper.

Hayes expressed his delight in seeing Shining Smile adapt to a different racing style and still deliver.

“He got a bit of cover which was great to see,” Hayes said.

“It was a beautiful ride by Daniel to get that little bit of wind protection there. He presented to the middle of the straight and was very strong late.

“That was a very polished performance and it’s a good effort by the horse to win four in a row.”
