News:

Trainer Clarry Conners has entrusted Jess Taylor to help Mowgli break her maiden at Warwick Farm before the apprentice takes an enforced Christmas holiday.

Taylor was unsuccessful in an appeal against a careless riding charge and will be off the scene from Christmas Eve until New Year’s Day.

Mowgli, who is scheduled to run in the 1600m maiden for three-year-olds, has been placed five times from 11 starts and has come ever so close in her past two races with seconds by a short head and a nose.

Taylor has been aboard both times with Conners happy with her rides but unhappy with the wide barriers each time.

The filly hasn’t fared any better at Warwick Farm and will start from the outside gate after the scratching of the only horse drawn outside her.

“I couldn’t believe it,” Conners said.

“I picked out this race and thought it was perfect for her but she has come up with a bad barrier again.

“I still haven’t fully committed to running her but it is a good opportunity with Jess’s three-kilo claim.

“Jess is riding well and the filly relaxes for her.”

Conners’ other problem is the wet weather in Sydney with Warwick Farm in the heavy range on Tuesday afternoon.

The rain in Sydney was expected to ease by late afternoon.

Barrier trials at Rosehill on Tuesday morning were called off after four heats with another set of trials at Wyong on Wednesday abandoned.
