Savvy filly continues Spring Racing Carnival 2025 build-up

Several established stars are set to appear at the Sydney trials this week, but the spotlight will also shine on some emerging three-year-olds looking to stamp their credentials ahead of the spring carnival.

Among them is the Brad Widdup-trained Savvy Hallie, who will line up for her second trial this preparation in a 900-metre heat at Rosehill on Tuesday morning. The field will also feature ATC Sires’ Produce Stakes runner-up State Visit.

Savvy Hallie is still searching for her maiden win after four career starts but has finished runner-up on three occasions. She is part of an exciting team for Widdup that includes recent Randwick winner Nashville Jack.

“Her and Nashville Jack are both promising types, so hopefully one or both can really measure up this preparation,” Widdup said. “She’s going the right way, but you never really know until you put them out there.”

The daughter of Hellbent scored impressively in her first trial at Rosehill on July 15, which marked her first public appearance since finishing second to Golden Slipper placegetter Tempted in the Group 2 Percy Sykes Stakes (1200m).

Prior to that, she had also filled the runner-up spot behind eventual Group 1 Champagne Stakes winner Nepotism in the Group 3 TL Baillieu Handicap (1400m).

Other notable two-year-olds set to step out include Champagne Stakes runner-up Within The Law, Black Opal Stakes winner King Of Pop, Pago Pago Stakes victor Skyhook, Silver Slipper runner-up West Of Swindon and Canonbury Stakes winner Blitzburg.

Last-start Group 3 Kindergarten Stakes winner North England will trial in the second 900-metre heat on the course proper alongside Magic Night Stakes winner Memo, the Chris Waller-trained pair Lindermann and Moira, and Group 1 winner Another Prophet.

The morning’s action will commence with a 1000-metre Group-class trial featuring proven stayers such as Arapaho, Land Legend and Interpretation as they build towards their spring campaigns.
