Sam Kavanagh loses cobalt appeal

Trainer Sam Kavanagh has had his appeal against conviction for cobalt breaches dismissed by the NSW Racing Appeals Tribunal.

Kavanagh is serving a six year-three month disqualification after being found guilty of multiple charges of race day treatment and the administration of a substance called Vitamin Complex later found to contain high levels of cobalt.

Judge David Armati heard Kavanagh’s appeal on Monday after the trainer lost his first before the Racing NSW Appeal Panel.

The judge has ordered the appeal be relisted for penalty submissions.

In September 2015, Kavanagh was outed for nine years and three months which was later reduced at his first appeal.
