Royal Ascot winner out to turn form around in Luskin Star Stakes 2025

Although Age Of Kings hasn’t found winning form in Australia, trainer Chris Waller remains optimistic that the talented import can bounce back, even if it takes a bit more time.

After capturing the 2023 Group 3 Jersey Stakes (1408m) at Royal Ascot, Age Of Kings was brought to Australia with the Golden Eagle as a major target. However, his form has since dipped, with six local runs failing to yield a win, including a last-place finish in the Hall Mark Stakes (1200m) on resumption.

Waller admits the five-year-old is dealing with more than just form, pointing to some underlying issues that have impacted his confidence and physical wellbeing.

“Age Of Kings is a work in progress,” Waller said.

“He has just lost confidence. He has got a few little issues that we are slowly getting on top of and once we get there, I’m sure he can be running in better races.”

In contrast, stablemate Chrysaor returns to the races in solid condition, boasting a strong record when fresh, including a Listed win at Flemington over 1400m to begin his previous campaign.

The gelding has had two trials in preparation for the Luskin Star Stakes (1300m) at Scone and Waller believes the set-up is ideal.

“He won at Flemington last prep first-up over 1400 metres, he has drawn well and it’s the right type of race for him,” Waller said

“He will run really well.”

Rory Hutchings takes the ride on Chrysaor, carrying 56kg, while Kerrin Mcevoy is set to reunite with Age Of Kings.
