Rosehill Guineas day 2012 race reviews

Another brilliant day of racing took place at Rosehill, with exciting prospect Laser Hawk, aided by a Nash Rawiller gem, winning the Rosehill Guineas (2000m). Rawiller said afterwards that this horse is the most exciting horse he has sat on since Elvstroem. You have to respect that call.

In the Magic Night Stakes (1200m), Ichihara maintained her unbeaten run with a determined effort to hold off Cavalry Rose. Ichihara’s connections will need to pay the late entry fee if she is to back up in Aami Golden Slipper (1200m) next Saturday.

Black Caviar’s younger brother All Too Hard made it all too easy when he coasted home to win the Pago Pago Stakes (1200m). It was a sit and steer job for Dwayne Dunn and that might be the case again next week if Patinack Farm elect for the quick seven day back up.

But the day belonged to Gai Waterhouse. She won the Guineas and also took out the Ajax Stakes (1500m) with Niagara, who spanked his rivals. He will now go in to the Doncaster Mile as a genuine lightweight chance.

Race One: Magic Night Stakes 1200m

FORGIVE:
Cavalry Rose was three and four wide no cover yet had the audacity to keep on fighting and nearly won. Definite Sires Produce horse.

FORGET:
I thought Valerio was much better, but she stopped very quickly after having a rather easy sit outside the leader and winner.

FOLLOW:
Doubtfilly wasn’t just here to make up the numbers. She ran a super race and is a horse to follow.

Race Two: Pago Pago 1200m

FORGIVE:
The opposition because they bumped in to a star in the shape of All Too Hard.

FORGET:
Bit disappointed by Amorino and his effort. He did stop very quickly and for me, he isn’t a Golden Slipper contender now.

FOLLOW:
The margin wasn’t pretty for punters, but Pierro is all class. It is rare to see juveniles been headed and then fight back to win. The horse to beat in the Golden Slipper I think.

Race Three: Darby Munro Stakes 1200m

FORGIVE:
Several horses got checked badly midway through the race and in the straight. It was a very rough race so you’ll have to watch the replay a few times.

FORGET:
Something isn’t right with Mahisara. He just isn’t racing well at the moment.

FOLLOW:
Unpretentious will win a race very soon…problem is that he has had a number of chances, but he was desperately unlucky (again) here. Hallowbell Belle proved she deserves her place amongst the better class youngsters with a tough win.

Race Four: Parramatta Leagues Club Challenge Stakes 1100m

FORGIVE:
Bel Sprinter missed the start badly and had no luck in the straight and arguably should have won the race. He’ll be hard to beat in the Galaxy.

FORGET:
Winter King tried to break Rain Affair’s heart, but he couldn’t and should be forgotten now.

FOLLOW:
Neeson is bouncing back to form. He was very good in defeat whilst Rain Affair was attacked throughout the running yet fought on like a tiger.

Race Five: De Bortoli Wines Epona Stakes 1900m

FORGIVE:
Crafty Irna…oh dear me. Should have bolted in but had no luck in the straight.

FORGET:
I don’t know why I keep backing Galizani. Never again.

FOLLOW:
Once Were Wild is ticking along beautifully and will go close to winning a nice race at Randwick.

Race Six: Hyland Colours Ajax Stakes 1500m

FORGIVE:
The opposition because Niagara dictated and sprinted clear like a genuine lightweight Doncaster hope.

FORGET:
Just a bit too rich for Hood. Needs to drop a grade or two.

FOLLOW:
Niagara should be followed with confidence. Needed to win here and he did it with ease. He’ll lap up the Randwick mile.

Race Seven: Flinders Lane Rosehill Guineas 2000m

FORGIVE:
Strike The Stars. Yes, he has had numerous chances, but he hasn’t had much luck, and again that was the case today thanks to an awful ride from Blake Shinn. Three deep from barrier three…

FORGET:
Said Com is a nice horse, but I feel 2000m might be too far for him.

FOLLOW:
Ocean Park was outstanding, as was Silent Achiever. Hoylonny will improve big time heading towards the Derby. And the winner, Laser Hawk, was superb. The thing in his favour is that he has plenty of upside.

Race Eight: N E Manion Cup 2000m

FORGIVE:
Herculian Prince just doesn’t seem to relax and perform at his best when racing at Rosehill. Wait until he gets back to Randwick.

FORGET:
Merchandies. The wraps were huge on him at the start of this prep but he has done nothing.

FOLLOW:
Precedence is getting back to his best form, Older Than Time will go very close in the Sydney Cup and Coliseo is always going to be in the finish.

Race Nine: Ascend Sales Birthday Card Stakes 1200m

FORGIVE:
I think they all had their chance.

FORGET:
I’ll say it before and I’ll say it again. Curtana.

FOLLOW:
Not really sure because it was a bunched finish. Treat this race as a form reference with caution.
