Robert Sangster Stakes 2014: Theodore set to aim high with Lady Lakshmi

Stephen Theodore is prepared to follow the rain and aim high with Lady Lakshmi as the racing season draws to an end.

A city win on a dry track at Sandown on Saturday has Theodore considering Group One options in Adelaide and Brisbane for the three-year-old who he says relishes wet ground.

“If all of a sudden the weather turned awful, I’d take her everywhere,” Theodore said.

“I’d travel her from Adelaide to Sydney, to Brisbane, just following the rain clouds.

“We dropped her back in grade today probably to take pressure off my shoulders and get a win for the owners. Now that’s achieved we’ll start being a bit bullish about it.”

Lady Lakshmi, the $4.60 favourite, was having her third start since transferring to the Theodore stable.

After taking up the running in the Smart Track Australia Handicap (1400m) the filly won by short neck over Whitten’s Delight ($8) with Miss Outshine ($11) a neck away third.

Theodore says the filly can win at black-type level and is considering the Robert Sangster Stakes in Adelaide and the Tatt’s Tiara in Brisbane as potential targets.

“The Sangster is there as an option back to 1200 metres,” he said.

Theodore said the beauty of Lady Lakshmi was that she took everything in her stride and was stress-free to train.

“If you had a stable full of horses like her, I reckon my hair would grow back,” he said.
