Riordan aims for Strickland Stakes 2025 success

Triple Missile has proven to be a versatile and reliable performer throughout his career, with a journey that has taken him from Todd Harvey to Lindsey Smith, through to Grant and Alana Williams, and now in the care of Donna Riordan.

The seven-year-old has shown his quality with interstate success and Group-level placings in Melbourne, along with a recent win in the Bunbury Stakes (1400m). With eight wins from 32 starts, most of his success has come between 1200m and 1400m.

This Saturday at Pinjarra, Triple Missile takes a new path, stepping up to 2000m for the first time in the Group 3 Swan Draught Strickland Stakes.

Trainer Donna Riordan is confident the son of Smart Missile will handle the distance.

“I’ll think he’ll get it,” Riordan told Tabradio. “I think he’ll get it well. Everything indicates and points that way. He’s never done it before, I know, but just the way he races and how economical he is. I think he should get it.”

The Strickland Stakes has been on Riordan’s radar for some time, and after an eye-catching third in the Hyperion Stakes (1600m), she felt it was the right race to test his stamina.

“We were always going to go this way,” she said. “I was hoping if he went well in the Hyperion he would go to the Strickland. I like to see him stretch out and see what he can do.”

Triple Missile has drawn barrier two, with Joe Azzopardi booked to ride.
