Richard Litt’s rising filly Caffe Florian targets 2026 Fireball Stakes

Richard Litt maintains a compact stable, but his track record includes reliable indicators for unearthing champions.

As the trainer of Group 1 double winner Castelvecchio and Profondo who took the 2021 Spring Champion Stakes, the Warwick Farm specialist likely has a strong contender again in budding filly Caffe Florian.

From maiden breakthrough on her sophomore appearance in November, this Snitzel-sired three-year-old swiftly captured the Listed Gosford Guineas (1200m) a month hence, a rare feat in a debut season.

Treading carefully, Litt downplays prospects for her initial run back in Saturday’s Fireball Stakes (1100m) at Randwick, yet he’s enthusiastic about prospects for owners Wendy and Ottavio Galletta, co-owners of his prior elite winners.

“They’ve had a few good horses, and they’ve also had a few very slow horses,” Litt said.

“They’re not cheap, horses, they’re big investments, and they’d have seven or eight horses, so I’m very excited for them.

“But we keep our heads on. Anything can happen in racing and we’re just happy to be there on Saturday.”

After dominating at Gosford, Caffe Florian was rested briefly to prepare for the Sydney autumn carnival.

The Group 2 Arrowfield 3YO Sprint (1200m) at Randwick on April 11 stands as her primary objective, mirroring launchpads for Joliestar (2024) and Classique Legend (2019).

A powerful closing burst in her latest barrier trial highlighted her, bolstered by lingering fitness from the summer, prompting Litt to foresee a sharp renewal.

“We didn’t want to overtax her in the barrier trial, just give her a nice, easy dash and she has really come on from that nicely,” Litt said.

“There is still lots of improvement to come, and there’s a lot of water to go under the bridge, but all being well our grand final is the Arrowfield.

“She’s not screwed down 110 per cent for Saturday, but she will still run a nice race.”

As Raging Force switches to the Challenge Stakes (1000m), nine runners assemble, with talented colt Beadman the early market choice.
