Promising filly Cavalry Girl, trained by Tom Dabernig, is set to contest the $2 million Inglis Millennium (1100m) at Randwick on February 8 following her impressive win at Flemington.
The daughter of Bivouac debuted at Geelong earlier this month, finishing second to the Ciaron Maher-trained Cherish Me, before breaking through with a determined win over 1000m at Flemington on January 18.
Dabernig revealed that while Cavalry Girl remains in contention for the Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m) at Caulfield on February 22, the lucrative prize money on offer in Sydney made the Inglis Millennium an irresistible target.
“She’s pulled up well, and she’s eligible for the Inglis Millennium, so we are going to Randwick on February 8,” Dabernig said.
“She’s in the Blue Diamond as well, which is two weeks after the Inglis Millennium, so there’s still some planning to do. But with the prize money on offer, it’s definitely worth having a go.”
Form and Future Prospects
Cavalry Girl’s victory at Flemington brought her prize money total close to $110,000, which should comfortably secure her a spot in the Blue Diamond Stakes field, provided she performs well at Randwick.
Dabernig is optimistic about her chances in Sydney, especially given the strength of the form behind Cherish Me, her conqueror at Geelong.
“I think Ciaron has a good opinion of his horse that beat us at Geelong, so hopefully it’s the right form to head to Sydney with,” Dabernig added.
Blue Diamond Contenders Emerging
With Cavalry Girl eyeing the Inglis Millennium, other two-year-olds are also making their cases for the Blue Diamond Stakes. The Chairman’s Stakes (1000m) at Sandown and the Blue Diamond Preludes (1100m) at Caulfield are set to reveal more contenders in the coming weeks.
“Over the next few races, we’ll likely see a few more step up,” Dabernig said. “But if we can travel up to Sydney and come back with a prize, it would be a great result.”
Cavalry Girl’s strong form and versatility make her one to watch as she tackles the Inglis Millennium and potentially the Blue Diamond Stakes later in the season.
