Results: Waterhouse, Berry claim Tattersall’s Tiara 2014

Champion trainer Gai Waterhouse and leading jockey Tommy Berry have combined for more Group One success, winning the Tattersall’s Tiara at Eagle Farm.

Berry rode a precise race to land the three-year-old filly Cosmic Endeavour a narrow winner in the final Group One event of the Australian racing season.

He angled Cosmic Endeavour out of a midfield pocket at the 400m and had his mount ready to strike at the 200m.

And Cosmic Endeavour responded brilliantly to hit the lead but she had to lift again to hold off a late finish from the Gerald Ryan-trained Angel Of Mercy.

Completing a trifecta for Sydney trainers, the Les Bridge-trained Avoid Lightning took the minor placing.

Waterhouse missed the race because she is in England to take in the five days of racing during Royal Ascot.

Berry flew in from Hong Kong where he is riding on a short-term contract until he returns to link full-time once more with the Waterhouse stable at Randwick.
