Outstanding mare Streama has claimed her fourth Group One win in the Doomben Cup at what has possibly been her final race.
Blake Shinn rode a tactical race, positioning Streama behind Leebaz and producing her in the straight where she overhauled the Hakwes Racing-trained runner with Junoob running on for third.
“I can’t tell you how special it is,” Shinn said.
“She has been the flag bearer for Guy Walter’s stable and to resurrect her career and get another Group One is very special.
“I was very confident. I galloped her on Tuesday and she was perfect.
“To come to Brisbane and win is just so special.”
After an unplaced Sydney autumn campaign, Streama was primed for Saturday’s 2000m race with victory in the Group Two Hollindale Stakes at the Gold Coast two weeks ago.
Walter said any decision on retirement would be made by her owners, the Coghlan family.
“I couldn’t pre-empt the owners,” he said.
“But she must be close to the end of her career and it’s hard to top today.
“I can’t speak highly enough of her. I haven’t had many better.”
