Japanese mare Hanna’s Goal has scored a last-to-first win in the All Aged Stakes – the final Group One race of the Sydney autumn.
Her Randwick victory on Saturday ensured a new-look Sydney racing carnival produced two international success stories after Irish sprinter Gordon Lord Byron captured the George Ryder Stakes last month.
Making her third appearance of the autumn, Hanna’s Goal reeled in her rivals with a breath-taking sprint from the back.
She started at $10 in beating Weary ($5.50) and Tiger Tees ($7).
Hanna’s Goal had contested the Coolmore Classic and Doncaster Mile at her previous two Sydney starts.
Winning jockey Nash Rawiller had nothing but praise for the mare’s achievement.
“It’s not easy to come from the other side of the world,” he said.
“Today with the small field she had a few things that suited her, she just showed her class and that’s what she’s got plenty of.”
