News:
Group One winning-colt Vanbrugh will be kept to middle-distance racing in the spring with the Epsom Handicap a goal.
Trainer Chris Waller said Vanbrugh would not continue his autumn campaign into the winter and would head to the spelling paddock.
His four-year-old season will begin with a similar preparation to that of his champion stablemate Winx who won the Epsom on her way to the Cox Plate.
Vanbrugh became his now-retired sire Encosta De Lago’s 24th individual Group One winner when he took out the 2015 Spring Champion Stakes (2000m).
“With his turn of foot better tracks are key for Vanbrugh and he would be very competitive at Randwick where he won as a two-year-old and this season in the Group one Spring Champion Stakes,” Waller said.
“I think 1600 to 2000 metres is potentially his best trip and obviously more success at the highest level will enhance the stud prospects of an already valuable colt.”
From the family of Group One winning sprinter-milers Sacred Star and Diademe, Vanbrugh won the Group Three Gloaming Stakes on his way to the Spring Champion Stakes.
He was an unlucky fourth in last month’s Rosehill Guineas won by Tarzino.
